BALLYNEEN OR BALLINEEN

Sub post, money-order and telegraph office, 30 miles from Cork and 10 from Bandon (head office). Ballineen, at which is a station of the West Cork Ry, is a healthy and pretty little town, overhanging the Bandon river, in the parish of Ballymoney. It consists of one street runnign east and west, and of another street starting from its centre, and running due south to the Bandon river.

It contains a market-house, court-house, one or two good inns, a Wesleyan chapel a new gothic Protestant church, etc.; the R. C. church of the district lies between Ballineen and Enniskeane. A farmers’ club, presided over by the Earl of Bandon, hold their meetings here on monthly fair days. Three trains daily between this and Cork: fares – single, 5/9, 4/3, 2/8; return, 8/9, 7/-, 4/5

Fairs and Flax Market 2nd Wednesday of every month; horse fair on 4 Aug.

Mail Car from Bandon to Bantry, vid Ballineen, 5:45 a.m.; returning at 4:45 p.m.

Postal: Mails arrive at 5:35am and 5:10pm; despatched at 7:15pm daily and 6:30pm on Sundays.
