3. John Simon Swanton was a farmer in Edenville Township, Michigan. His father died when he was five, and when he was eleven, he lived with Augustus Simon and then John Melhorn. After the Civil War, he returned to Erie, PA and stayed with John Melhorn. In 1867, he came to Edenville Township. He returned to Pennsylvania where he married Catherine Brown (Braun), daughter of Christian and Catherine Brown. Catherine and her sisters emigrated from Wurttemburg, Germany and joined their brothers in Erie, PA. John Simon Swanton had quite a career in the Civil war.

8. Lafeyette Swanton died on February 22, 1956. He started out as a woodsman and decided to become a doctor. He was quite successful, and he dedicated the Lafyette Memorial Center to his hometown of Traverse City.
